Bias Blind Spot: The Asymmetric Error Tolerance
Thinker:LessWrong community (Yudkowsky, et al.)
Summary
People reliably spot flaws in others' reasoning but underestimate their own mistakes—yet even rationalists, aware of this, frequently ignore their own epistemic blind spots. This creates an 'asymmetric error tolerance': we allow ourselves wiggle room we would criticize in others, which sabotages group deliberation and self-improvement unless we consciously invert the scrutiny.
